Christian McCaffrey to Wear Cleats Designed by Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford Patient for NFL’s My Cause My Cleats
San Francisco, CA (November 25, 2024) – San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, announced today his partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for the NFL’s 2024 My Cause My Cleats campaign.
McCaffrey, founder of the Christian McCaffrey Foundation, will be sporting specially designed cleats inspired by a Packard Children’s patient’s artwork for the 49ers’ My Cause My Cleats game December 8, 2024, at Levi’s Stadium against the Chicago Bears. The collaboration is part of the Christian McCaffrey Foundation’s initiative, The Logan Project, which places specialized gaming consoles in children’s hospitals to foster normalcy and outside connection for patients receiving treatment.
In 2023, the Christian McCaffrey Foundation donated two specialized gaming consoles to Packard Children’s Hospital. The Christian McCaffrey Foundation will be supporting Packard Children’s again for the 2024 NFL My Cause My Cleats campaign, with McCaffrey wearing cleats inspired by a patient’s design. The patient, 19-year-old Ellen Washington, was hospitalized due to a rare condition called primary ciliary dyskinesia, which can lead to chronic lung, ear, and sinus infections. Though she is an avid runner, her latest flare-up sidelined her from a half marathon across the Golden Gate Bridge. She drew on her medical experience and love for the 49ers to inspire her design.
“This is such a cool opportunity,” Washington said. “CMC is a powerhouse for the Niners. Me and my brother always cheer for him when he’s on the field...It means so much to me that CMC is wearing something I designed. I’m honestly still in shock. ”
McCaffrey’s cleats will be up for auction following the December 8th 49ers game against the Chicago Bears. All funds raised during the auction will be donated to Packard Children’s on behalf of the Christian McCaffrey Foundation’s Logan Project. McCaffrey will also be partnering with his brother, Washington Commanders’ Luke McCaffrey, who will wear cleats designed by a child from the Children’s National Hospital of Washington D.C—a beneficiary of four gaming consoles from the Christian McCaffrey Foundation’s Logan Project.
"I'm so excited to work with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for this year's My Cause My Cleats,” shared McCaffrey. “The Logan Project was launched to be a source of happiness for kids in hospitals, and the fact that I can wear one of those patient's designs today is a true honor."
